WeRateDogs x Hozier Twitter Animation

If you had told me in college that I’d be earning a living catering to a Twitter account that rates dogs, I’d probably laugh in your face and continue on with my childhood dream of being an archaeologist. But, here I am six years later and enjoying every bit of it.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with WeRateDogs since the release of their online store back in 2016. Back then, I was creating simple t-shirt designs for their modest Twitter following of two million accounts.

Matt Nelson, creator of WeRateDogs, reached out to me with an exciting opportunity one afternoon when I was buried neck-deep in pharmaceutical advertisement designs. He was developing a new online video series where he’d interview celebrities at shelters to help promote pet adoption. He then told me the first guest would be none other than Billboard’s Top Rock Artist of 2015, Hozier.

My task was simple, if not unorthodox. Hozier was to answer a series of questions while one of the rescue pups licked peanut butter off of his cheek. A meter would then appear on the bottom of the screen and calculate how “lickable” Hozier was.

Spoiler: Hozier is very lickable—and that’s science talking. Don’t make it weird.
